Project Heartwork is a unique multi-disciplinary arts-based retreat series for young Muslimah change-makers running. The series explores community organizing and self-care through creative writing, spoken word poetry & theatre, mixed media arts, and qigong & meditation, building capacity for personal growth and sustainable change. The 3-part series, ending in our coming Heart to Art showcase, includes:
The Rituals of Resilience Retreat:
A muti-disciplinary retreat series for creative change-makers to build their resiliency toolkit for self and community care strategies that support sustainable community building
The Passion to Action Creative Incubator:
A weekend intensive workshop to develop passion projects, spoken through artistic expression
Critical Arts Engagement Showcase - Heart to Art:
A showcase of works created throughout the series inspiring creative positive change through the theme Healing our Whole Selves, By Minding our Hearts. Participants in the series will be showcasing original work through a mixed media exhibition & performances!
This project is being offered in partnership with Oxum Creative Collective, with the support of The Inspirit Foundation and City of Toronto. Our Project partners include: the Children’s Peace Theatre and St. Stephen’s Community House. Guest facilitators include: Mixed Media Photographer, Riya jama; Community Organizer & Writer, Sakinah Hasib; and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Healer, Nada Ashkar.
