Join us for the 2nd Annual LUMINOUS Fest on June 8th 2019 - 12-8pm at Prarie Drive Park, Scarborough!
LUMINOUS Fest is Canada’s first Black Muslim Arts Festival - an all-day multi-disciplinary arts festival celebrating the contributions of Black Muslims. This family-friendly event is hosted by Timaj Garad features musical, theatrical, and spoken word performances, arts-based workshops, live painting, a drumming circle, a full bazaar with vendors across the city, and a live panel discussion.
LUMINOUS Fest is a response to the erasure of Black Muslim identity in our communities and the need to celebrate, acknowledge, and witness the contributions of Black Muslims to the cultural and artistic landscape of Toronto. We hope that through this festival, we can build and uplift community while enjoying some of the best art and entertainment this city has to offer!
Last year’s ground-breaking event was a beautiful gathering of over 300 community members on Eid-ul-Fitr weekend, June 16th 2018 at Confederation Park (250 Dolly Varden Blvd.). Luminous Fest 2019 preparations are underway - donations and/ sponsorship to fund this initiative are now being accepted, we welcome future contributors to the 2nd annual LUMINOUS Fest 2019! Contact me to find out how to support.
This event is open to all and intended as a space for community to gather as we amplify the voices of Black Muslims, honoring stories that heal, educate, inspire, and call us to build healthier communities.
LUMINOUS Fest is supported and funded by the Toronto Arts Council, City of Toronto, The Toronto Arts Foundation, and Arts in the Park Toronto
